The 400 Turbo

Hi folks,

Well as some of you know, i bought Mikes old 400.

Big thanks to mike for delivering it, and talking me through the mountains of functions etc. Also for replacing the waterpump and PAS pipes the day before it was meant to be collected due to waterpump leakage.

Most of you know the rough spec:

Engine:

220 Coupe lump with oil cooler
Arrow Forged rods
86mm JE Forged Pistons
Klinger headgasket
Custom headbolts
Oil squirters
Custom high torque piper cams and pulleys
Mildly ported head
Port matched manifolds
Custom engineered inlet manifold for 8 injector setup
8 Injectors (4 reds, 4 greens)
FSE fuel reg
Converted to wasted spark with Zetec coil pack
Magnecor leads
Custom made Garrett GT Turbo by Ray Field (i think..some Australian race car engineering turbo place) , similar to a GT2876RS.
Stebtech TB bracket
Lobster back 3 inch downpipe
3 inch custom exhaust
Aquamist water/methanol injection with ally tank in the boot
WON Nitrous system with progressive controll computer and bottle warmer
Hybrid ally Intercooler
Custom made boost pipes
Samco and forge silicone hoses
ITG intake filter
Baileys DV24
NGK plugs (grade 6)
Knock Sensor system
Blitz adjustable 4 stage boost controller, currently set at 0.6, .9 , 1.3 and 1.6 Bar.
Motec M800 with Launch , traction and anti lag

Drivetrain
Short shift
Linkage rebuilt with motobuild kit
Silverstorm Support bar bushes
Steel caged box
GBE Kevlar clutch
Hydraulic action

Wheels/brakes/suspension
Spax Coilovers
Full superflex polybush kit
Upper and lower front and rear strut braces
Front under X brace
Kahn RSR 17" wheels with yokohama tyres
ZS180 Calipers and drilled and grooved discs with carbon ceramic pads
Coupe rear disc conversion

Body/interior

Bear in mind this was all done when it was the fashion, but even now, in the flesh i get more compliments that insults
'Subtler' Mynheer kit including:
Rear spats
smaller rear wing
sideskirts
front splitter
'Bandana'(although luckily this flew away when driving down a dual carriageway  )
Headight eyebrows
Deleted rear doorhandles
Smoothed bootlock
M3 mirrors with custom baseplates

Cool Louvres vented bonnet

All sprayed by Avon Customs in House of Kolor Candy Blue, with Silver 'effects' and grey pinstriping and the phrase 'Rover 400 turbo' down the side.

Full 420GSDi leather, in brand new condition
Other than the computers and switches for everything, its stock standard
Ice is focal and alpine
CLifford alarm thats driving me mad.

Number plate
Well, it P8 SSU

which could be constrewed as Pass U , **** U or Pussy

The end, all i can say is this car is mindwarpingly fast and stunningly good fun, the quality of mikes Modifications are second to nothing ive ever seen before, simple as that. The guy is seriously switched on, and very forward thinking.

Spent all of yesterday doing my engine bay thing, couldnt do anything about the boost hoses as i didnt have any in Silverstorm Purple, and theres some sort of scale on the bodywork i cant shift!!

But i did my best.

It had new PAS pump
New waterpump and housing
Set of Samco coolant hoses
Full set of Silverstorm coolant rails
A new header tank
New PAS tank
New stat, gaskets and bolts
New Red 5 year Coolant
New Pink screenwash
Some new bolts and nuts
The defunct dizzy cap removed and a 600 blanking plate inserted
Dipstick tube sprayed black satin
new turbo heatshield
and swapped the yellow oil cap for a black one. Few little tify ups and some brackets ground down to metal and sprayed satin black.

Sounds like a fun, sorted car, think I would have to trailer it to a track to drive it.

My dervs quick enough for me to collect points, think I would last a week with the power of your 400!!!

Looking good, some nice under bonnet detail going on.

Is the stepper motor not used with motec.

Do you still want the gear linkage pics, I'll do some if so

I'm really liking the louvered bonnet as well, perhaps some stainless bolts for the cam covers etc.

Ho.Ly. Christ.

That's awesome.

So, just to get the engine right in my head, you've got a T series turbo with uprated turbo, forged internals, a charge cooling system AND an intercooler, and then someone went and hooked up a NOS kit, too. Crikey. Does it do time travel, too? It cant be that far off the speed of light...
