Handbrake and ABS warning lights

When I start the ZS I notice the ABS light stays illuminated for about 5 seconds after I start the car. I read in the manual it should go out 2 seconds after the ignition has been switched to position 2, also I was out in the girlfriends house the other day and I left the car in gear on a flat surface with the handbrake off. When I started the car the handbrake warning light flashed on and off. Any ideas?

2 seconds, 5 seconds, not much of a difference, I wouldn't worry.

Why was the handbrake off?
If the car is parked it should be on.
You can also leave the car in gear if you are concerned about the handbrake not holding.
However I have no idea why the light flashed but it is proberbly a self check so, again, I wouldn't worry about it.
