adjusting handbrake

when adjusting the hand brake do you do it with the brake on of off?

the adjustment on my 416 was behind the rear ashtray. is this still the case?

  • Jack car up.
  • Handbrake on one click of the ratchet and rotate wheels.
  • Adjust until slight drag felt on wheels (adjuster behind rear ashtray as mentioned)
  • Release handbrake and repeat process until you get 7-11 clicks and full lock of wheels.
Make sure the equalising mechanism is also working as well as the calipers. I found it was easier to remove the rear console section as the adjuster nut did not rotate freely and sprung back as I could not get a decent throw on the nut.
