Help with a French ****

Hi All,

Long Story short my little brother went to a main Peugeot dealer (he was warned). He bought a 207 1.6 HDI Sport with 30k on the clock around 13 months ago.

Last night he rang me and said that the electrics were being a bit dodgy but it drove fine, he limped it this morning back to where he bought it.

Got another call this afternoon, turns out the water pump has failed and leaked on the wiring loom causing a lot of damage... £3000 worth...

Should this happen after only 4 years? The dealer is essentially washing their hands of the whole thing

Feel so sorry for him as he saved up long and hard to buy it.

Can anyone help me out?

What is the timing belt / water pump change interval for this engine? Is it overdue? If it's been done is it original Peugeot parts and fitment?

If it's not overdue then that would work in his defence surely?

Sounds very premature I would suggest contacting Peugeot themselves which could yield results especially if it has been maintained in line with their servicing plan.

A main dealer will want to replace everyting with new parts, if he doesn't get anywhere with Peugeot it may be worth looking for a non franchised specialist who wiĺl use second hand parts.

I would advise having a word with trading standards as 13 months is unreasonable in my book. Was there any warranty offered with the purchase or indeed anything carried over from new? I would definately go for the bad publicity route if all else fails as nothing to lose.
