A friend of mine was in the same boat he brought a 307,
A few years ago it developed a fault with the timing chain, common fault Peugeot refused to do anything about it.

With that in mind, get him to keep an eye on his chain lol

Stephen will become famous soon enough
Similar thing happened with my Jetta.

Spoke to VW them selfs and they sorted parts, we paid labour. Told a friend to do the same with his polo.

Guess speak to Peugeot themselfs and threaten to take it further if they don't sort it.

a water pump could fail/leak at any time, its a moving part with a rubber seal.

He bought it 13 months ago, even if he had bought it 4 months ago there would be little comeback on the trader - an extended warranty may or may not have covered it, depending on level of warranty.

Lets face it, most people know french cars are not reliable, one lease company refused to lease a french car after 80% of the entire fleet maintenance budget was spent keeping french tat on the road.

French electrics/electronics are buggy all the time, sat navs not booting up, complete light clusters not working, but the IT ' turn it off and leave it 30 seconds then restart' usually solves these momentary glitches.

Time to accept he made a bad decision 13 months ago.

I won't accept that Mark, I will fight it with every ounce of effort I can muster. Even if it goes down the legal route.

That said I will repeat my initial warnings on 'Le Voiture Merde'

glad to say I sold a pug the night before that top gear aired, I doubt it would have sold afterwards!

If I read it correct the car is now 4 years old? Very little come back on the manufacturer, they may be interested in a bit of good will but that would possibly involve the dealer doing the work! Always worth a try!

putting a few things into perspective here;

examples of problem cars where the manufacturer rarely offers goodwill outside manufacturer warranty timescales.

Alfa 1.9jtd 150 16v - issues with waterpumps seizing and stripping the cambelt

vauxhall m32 gearbox (fitted to many cars other than vauxhall) typical lifespan of 40k miles

honda diesels - certain years major issues as early as 20k and timing chains that stretch.

bmw diesels - certain years snapping the timing chain

audi multi-tronic early life common failures.

All in all, a water pump that's started leaking at 4 years in my mind isn't going to cut it with peugeot.

I think it will be down to one of lifes experiences, Don't get me wrong, i'd fight it all the way too..

The thing to remember water pumps are often classed as sacrificial parts. 9 times out of 10, they are a plasic impeller on a metal shaft, and often break.

I see it all the time in outboard motor engines.

In fact, you’re legally allowed to return it up to six years after you bought it. But it gets more difficult to prove that a fault and not normal wear and tear is the cause of any problem.

For help making your complaint consider using Resolver.co.uk. The Ombudsman Services said “Resolver.co.uk is a free online service and app that offers consumer advice and simplifies the process of complaining.”

hope you find something useful there
