Speed camera help!

I was in a friends car, he was driving and drive by police holding a handheld speed gun. He thinks he was speeding. I thought if he was caught they would have waved him in?

Any knowledge on here?

Re: Speed camera help!

Believe the mobile units they can sent you a letter now. Sure smokey or Dan will confirm though.

Did you wave?

IIRC, the drive by units now send you a letter, and have 2 weeks in which to send it out.

But, if you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime

IF he is lucky he could be offered to go on a speed awareness course instead, still £60 fine (IIRC) but no points.. and from what I hear they are quite good and effective, if only for 6 months to a year after the course...

Here's the thing -

If they were actual officers using a camera, and you were over the limit, they have 14 days to inform you that you were over and commence proceedings.

However - very often these days, we're using it as a tactic to dissuade speeding. So we send poeple - support officers and even volunteers sometimes out in yellow jackets to point the gun at passers by. They don't know what the difference is and it has the impact of slowing cars down.
