Sonic_160zr will become famous soon enough
Clutch slave has gone.

Unfortunatly this has just happened to me yesterday on the way home from visiting my Auntie in Calne, i managed to get the car the 30 odd miles home across a/b roads with 2 gears so im just glad I didnt have to abandon the car anywhere and walk home!

Me being me im looking to use this as an opportunity to do some extra bits whist the gearbox will be out. Im thinking of getting a lightened flywheel and new clutch fitted as well as the sheddist kit in one hit. The only problem is that I cannot do this myself so its going to be going to my local garage to do.

Is there anything else that would be worth doing whilst the box is out? and where is the best place to get a lightened flywheel from?

Cheers,
Matt

the gear box doesn't need to come out for a new hydraulic system.

Didnt know that, thanks learn something new everyday . would it still be worth changing the clutch at the same time though? the cars on 62k but it was making a hell of a racket yesterday.

Matt

Can you describe the racket it was making, as said the box doesn't need to come off for the slave to be replaced, you'll almost certainly need the slave and mounting bracket, or you may get away with just the bracket if the slave hasn't ejected its piston.

A picture of the slave and bracket would be useful

Yes inspect the bracket for any fine cracks, might not seem like much. But flexes enough to stop the slave from working properly.

Some of the gears were crunching as they went in, yet my foot was practically throught the firewall, and it would make a tinny (highish pitch) very similar to the sound of the brake heatsheilds rubbing on the wheel, like a scrapinging noise, happened in most of the gears at different revs.

Ill try and get a picture now.

Cheers,
Matt

The fact that you could still change gear is potentially good news, as it may mean just the bracket is flexing, cheap and easy fix if thats the case.

Yea ive heard stories where you have been unable to change gear at all, so when the bite point suddenly dropped I did have a bit of a panic, but I could change to all the forward gears, some were less noisy than others. so tried to stay in the quieter ones.

Dont know if these help at all...

Cheers,
Matt

On your third pic is that a crack running across the bracket.

The slave at least hasn't spat the piston out, so may be reuseable.

Can you get some one to press the clutch pedal while you take a pic, it'll make it easy to see if the bracket is flexing.

No its not a crack just the camera angle. No one else is here at the moment but when I have a spare body ill get a pic with the pedal pressed as well.

Ive managed source a sheddist kit so im guessing this should resolve the problem?

Thank you for your help Pete. Much appriciated as always!

Cheers,
Matt
