Hgf, what a mess

Well I got stuck into the bro' inlaws zed today. My first K head gasket.

what a f###king mess. There must have been 7L of gunge in the sump.

And its allready had the uprated headgasket 45k ago. There was a bit of scum in the water but most of the water was in the oil. I can not see any obvious damage.

check the liners arent dropped cracked

measure the hight of them all with a mechanical rule or similar... rest it across the top of all four and see if any are lower than the others... any that have dropped or risen should be obvious.

oh and DO NOT turn the engine whilst the head is off.. or you will move the liners

Yep ive checked the hight of the linears are all the same, meant to say how do I check a cracked one when I cant turn it over ?

Ahhh... you can either lock the liners with special locking tools (basically clamp the liners inplace, then you can turn the pistons...

or check from the top then remove the sump and check from below with a torch... not perfect but should give you some idea
