What about a 1.8 hatch, still be quicker than the astra and a good base for a vvc head swop should you want more power. They are frugal little engines for the performance they give and handle a treat.

This looks like it might be worth a look, only 22k miles, monogram colour, 2004 and a hatch!
With a bit of bartering you might even get them down to the price of the red 180 youve seen.

Problem is insurance

The zs v6's were good for me at around £350 fully comp for the year, i'm 30 with 9 years ncb but my postcode lets me down. The type-r and golf come in around double that.

What I am looking for is a 1.8 non turbo no more than about 6-7 years old with nice spec and nothing to big so really a sports hatch.

Tell me about it, my folks moved up to letchworth a few years ago, did some quotes on their address and I could get fully comp on a ferrari for about £400 lol its madness!
