lumpy acceleration

can anybody help. car has lumpy accelerartion. i have a mg zt 1.8 turbo. when accelerating from low revs in second and third gear i get 2 lumps/hesitations of acceleration normally about 4 and 5 k. they feel almoust likes bumps or like you are dabbing the throttle quickly. when accelerating from higher revs ie 3k+ i dont get any lumps and the car goes just fine
