HID kits

Just been mailed by EuroCarParts offering full HID kits for £34.99

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/ca...d771-282186341

Now, I thought that these were an MOT failure if not originally fitted to the car?

That was what was being suggested when the MoT rules changed, the reality seems to be different in that if the beam pattern and aim is good they get passed.

Thanks Pete, confirms what I've just found with a quick Google.

Not sure if it's worth a punt or not with winter drawing in

They are 8000's but sure if that is yellow or blue.

Mart_in_MCR will become famous soon enough
I had a HID kit for my old ZR but never fitted in the end due to scare stories about the MOT tests. If I remember correctly you can get a H7R bulb which is similar to the non-projector HIDs found in Honda Civics and Renault Lagunas which would be better for our cars? I am still tempted but just not sure.

I have had an HID kit in both my Oldsmobile Alero (when I lived in Canada) and have now transferred the set to my Rover 414 when I bought it over 2 years ago and have passed vrt and have never had any problems with it. Make sure to get it around 5-6k for it to be a white light any less will have a yellow tint to it and any more will become purple.

As long as they are aimed properly, there should be no problems with them.

By the time I'm done my car though, I will have retrofitted projectors anyways and will have HIDs in my dipped beams and high beams

For a good quality set at a low price, look at DDM tuning in the states. They offer a lifetime warranty on bulbs and ballasts as well. I have the slimline set and have had it for almost 5 years with no problems what-so-ever.

Had them in mine for the past 2 mots and has never caused an issue. Always been in perfect beam pattern so no issues.
I've got the normal H7 bulbs, tried the h7r but very little difference so stayed with what I had.
4300k is as close to natural white light
6000k is white with a minor blue hint to it, more like the usual setup in most newer cars
8000k is more blue (I've got these in mine) it gives that slight bluey look from a distance but its not strong or too noticeable and the light dispersal is great. Slimline ballasts with canbus on mine for as and when I eventually change cars they will be compatible with other marque's as weren't a cheapy set.

I would fit them to any car that doesn't have them as standard as are a great improvement over standard halogen bulbs.
Obviously with mots can only speak from experience but I haven't ever had problems passing because of the bulbs since they've been fitted

I've got these in mine, just swapped them from the saloon into the hatch.

Spend a lot of time researching the different types, didn't want to spend £30 £40 on something that you could get for £20. Had them in over a year now and no issues. Have a read, you might need h7c if a mk1.
