Busy weekend ahead
Looks like I have my work cut out for me this weekend with a few parts to replace on my 180:
Thermostat
Coolant temp sensor
Gaskets
Gear stick linkage bush
Brakes front and rear
After that, I need to find the cause of the uprated clutch system losing fluid (think its a Sheddist but was fitted by the previous owner), why theres a flat spot at 3k (likely VIS related?) and if my inlet manifold has the dreaded rattle.
Thankfully DMGRS on hand to provide the above parts very last minute

That will keep you busy, make sure swmbo has a supply of coffee and biscuits!
Flat spot sounds like VIS failure. If you are removing the plenum to do the thermostat housing then you can check the plenum to see if the butterfly valves open and close. A piece of stiff wire shaped will help to get around the tracts and check if the flaps are closing fully or indeed come adrift of the actuator arm.

I've change a KV6 stat before, its not overly difficult but a real pain to get to as its inside the V
Stamford, I've never been anywhere near the inlet manifold or looked inside one.
Where abouts are the butterflies? And whats the worst that could happen if they're loose/busted?

There are 6 butterflies inside the plenum and are linked by one actuator arm controlled by the vis motor on top of the plenum, power valve. These wear over time and the butterfly becomes detached so rattles with the airflow. Nothing can happen here just loss of power and noisy, no digestion of parts either!

Changed the stat and temp sensor over the weekend, however it didnt fix the problem I was hoping it would rectify. However with further investigation, I've finally found out why my engine's cooling fan was spinning up to max speed as soon as the ignition is on (even before engine is actually started).....
It wasnt anything to do with the temp sensor failing, or the battery as advised; but the control unit behind the bumper.

The control unit does get overlooked because it's normally other things that make the fan run, dying battery etc

Still got alot of work to do. And to confound matters more, today the cabin smells like petrol so guess theres a fuel leek somewhere. If its not one thing, its another.
