Tax Increase Details

Well looks like most of us will be ok with regards to the tax hike that was planned!! It now won't affect every car, just really those registered after 23rd March 2006!! Link to the details here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...icle/DG_172916

Phate is an unknown quantity at this point
It's still wrong though....why should someone who bought a car in 2006 be forced to payer higher tax now?

It's stupid.

Aye your right there, people who bought a car after that date had no way of knowing this tax hike would happen. I mean you could have two cars registered in the same week that were exactly the same but one would cost near double to tax per year!! Which also means when your buying you would need to relly check it's registered date

I suppose one advantage might be that it'll help support the re-sale value of pre 2006 cars which can only be a good thing. Mind you I have no plans to sell mine for a long time.

'twas on the BBC yesterday that 2nd hand cars (in some cases) are actually selling at a higher value than a new car (as there are so many offers on them to try to get them moving off the forecourts).

Sorry mate - scrol down that link and you get

Quote:
How much will I have to pay under the new rates?

The new vehicle tax rates for cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 will be split into 13 bands depending on CO2 emissions. The amount you will pay depends on which band your car comes under. The new system will help better reflect the difference in emissions between cars. The lower a car’s emissions, the lower the vehicle tax band it will be in.

The new bands will be introduced on 1 May 2009, and will apply to all tax discs bought from that date onwards.

no no the 180 is in band K on the new system. Which is the same band as what you pay just now plus a tenner extra next year and another £20 the year after that.
