This bloody bonnet...

Hi guys,

Me and Matt took the short drive to Walsall on Friday to collect a replacement BRG bonnet for my Mk2 (a steal at £50 and in very good condition for age!) however, after swapping the two bonnets over and attempting to get it all lined up, we managed to jam the little beggar so now she won't open, no amount of tugging on the release lever and/or brute force seem to be doing the trick. The problem we think is that the springs that go into the front holes are slightly out of place, and as such it's got stuck. This isn't a massive issue I know, but with a front grill missing too she looks rather silly (not to mention with my luck over the years i'll need to get into the engine bay in the near future!)

Any suggestions?

Errm it's not a pretty suggestion but i did have a similar problem with a saxo but as the grill was part of the bonnet i ripped that off and set about the catches with a large screwdriver and a hammer until it sprung open. I'm sure a more knowledgable member will tell you the correct procedure for fixing this though.

Just a thought but it's worked for me in the past. Get matt to pull the lever from inside the car whilst you PUSH down on the bonnet directly above the latches, it may release it.
