I thought its probably best off if i post this in here as its a build project,
I had a 160 zr mk2, and a 120 zs mk2with a knackered engine and decided to transplant the engine,
After a lot of messing about and getting the wiring diagrams off rave, i managed to mate the looms and it works!
Well the engines in and running beautifully, pulls all the way through to just past 7k ( only tested stood still not moving)
It moves, so everything there is fine, just needs exhaust sorting, 160 calipers and drilled/ grooved discs going on along with my addendums, and then making aure the system is all bled up properly and thats it!
Few pics
Engine is in

Thanks buddy, was a lot easier than i expected tbh,
Engine management light is on atm though, will get the code read later/tomorrow and see what that is, although it was on before i put the engine in because a coil pack died and i never reset it
Yeah looks as though it wasn't too difficult in the end reading your thread on it on .org. You'll soon be loving the vvc power on the road!
I know what you mean about EML lights though, mine is on as the previous owner fitted a decat, another thing on the giant list to sort!

Well thats it, done, the engine runs sweet as a nut, pulls all the way through past 7000rpm
i prefer the longer gears from the 120 box for town driving aswell, works perfectly
Next is my 160 calipers all round and then gold addendums on at weekend

glad to hear you got to the bottom off the wiring issue,at least youve had a go and done it,well done and even better when you do the jobs yourself saves on garage bills etc
nickc09
08-01-14, 07:43 PM
The only wiring issue was me being a ***,
When i removed the launch control from the loom i forgot to cover the bare wire up, so one of the coil negatives was touching metal,
Anyway after a "what a ***" moment i taped it up and it run perfectly lol
Thanks guys ;)
Nick
Woohoo, glad it's working mate!

Woohoo, glad it's working mate!
Not as much as i am, i love the thing, feels much better than the zr,
Not as fast but thats not an issue, thats what the other engine im building is for lol
But yeah, for anyone thinking of doing this conversion, do it!
Enright

Well done on getting it going. I saw mention of a thread on .org. Do you have a link to it?

I thought the ratios were all the same with the exception of 5th, which is longer on the 120 and revvy on the 160, both on a 4.2 final, or have I got the wrong info?
zs120 is a C4, zs180 is a C6

Ill be honest buddy, im not sure, but it feels like it takes longer to get through the revs than the zr did, probably due to all the extra weight

Its pretty much the same thread thays on here buddy, tried to keep them similar

120zs vs 160zr, think its c4 vs g4? the g4 has the revvy 5th gear
yeah my bad, ZR160 should have a G4.
G is slightly shorter.

did you use the vvc exhaust manifold or the ZS one?
are they both the same or is the ZS one a 4-1 rather than 4-2-1?

Will get a forum strted about my VVC once on computer. Not sure if old owner was on here, Matt Ward, its his old ZS with a couple of Mods

Yeah i used the vvc manifold and downpipe, the centre section had to be modified to fit it, but the 120 manifold will fit, just not as free flowing as the 160 one

It does, but it scrapes lol, as i said i wound it up 15 threads but it was nowhere near enough, gnna have a go tomorrow to pull it up more, just thought id throw up some pics as it got lots of attention on splitter scuffers on facebook
on mine - we have set them to half way - lowered a touch to remove the major gap - but def not slammed by any rate - should get a pic as the sun is out....
mine rub on the lining from time to time as well even with that 'small' amount of lowering.
looks good though once you get it all settled :)

Looks great like that!
What's it like on a bumpy corner though? Looks like it'd push the wheel through the arch!
I was considering lowering mine but it scrubs so so much with the wheels spaces that it'd be an absolute nightmare unless I got the arches cut and reshaped!

Scrubs but not enough to cause damage, and as for the springs they still have loads of thread left to go up, i just love the lows lol
