View Full Version : My MG ZR Replica
Since i had a spare Zed which i stripped for parts, i went and got a really really cheap r25, downside - front damage half repaired and thought this will be a good experience for me as iv always wanted to learn abit about cars, and know the basics of a rover car and the k series engine.
the previous owner had this car standing for months and months so it wasnt really in the best running condition had little niggles like washer bottle cracked, car running lumpy due to crap plugs, oil sensor missing etc. after £50 on plugs/oil/coolant etc she was purring like a kitten!
i thought id buy this as i dont see many MG Rovers kitted in a 4 door version bar sammys . and + the excellent price i got it at!
all my progress has been recorded in my blog spot.
check it out if you have time

oh yeah here are some pictures of my workhorse whihc i use to commute to work and pick up bits for my Rover. Its a 1.9 Dturbo which has been lowered, stage one tuned (running about 115ish bhp) and a derv doctor dump valve....best of all this little beast is an insurance group 5!

wow, what a great blog on the 25/zr! a few neat touches I may use myself. Love the carputer, I fitted one to my Punto a couple of years back with 8" touchscreen, sat nav etc, but got bored of it and sold it. I love the USB plugs though, I will defo be doing this when I change my headunit to the dvd/divx/mp3/bluetooth one!
I just wish I had the funds and the guts to do all that myself, well done mate.
Thanks pal :D
what interface did you have? im thinking of running road runner unless you know a better one out there?
think road runner is the way to go, I had mediacar but the owner retired or something so will never be updated. This blog has got me thinking about going down this route again for the ZS this time but spending a bit more cash and doing it properly, my install in the punto cost me about £250 max
mine cost me about £100, the rest of the stuff i had lying around or borrowed from work...
some guy in a ZS has fabricated this

cheers sammy, i love it to peices, something fresh! going to attempt to put a smooth laguna splitter on tomorrow!
legend, its a simple mod. before you fit it tho, a tip is to drill small holes into it where you will screw, will make screwing it to the bumper easier :D
iv got the cupra R one on atm, so just going to use the same holes. Myself and Hincey put loads a screws in that so going drill holes into the laguna splitter where the existing holes were
perfect, looking forward to seeing it :D

Yes I know that only too well! When I used to race I would spend all evening out in the garage working on my car, weekends preparing it for the Sundays racing and the following week repairing it! I would race most of the year and spend the winter months either rebuilding it or building another car!
I do miss it, but I don't miss the hard work :D
i used to do a lot of work over ther short summer we had, but since cold weather has started to hit, im taking every opportunity to do work to it and get it ready.
Looking very good indeed. Rozzr and I were chatting about your car last night as we stood on his drive freezing our nuts off!
hehe keep it schtum thou :P its going to unveiled in the next couple of weeks
p.s. all good i hope!
Got the wheels on the car and got it lowered, lovinggg it :D although i think my gearbox is fubared :( making whining noises on acceleration

what software did you use matey for the screen setup?
i cant remember il let you know!
well after the little incident a few weeks ago im back for the 2nd time lmfao
couldnt be arsed with the hassle for getting the brows done again so just want for a normal front but with strips and indicators smoothed out.
iv literrally spent the day outside in the cold and rain repairing the car.
what i put on is a new bonnet, bumper, temp repaired the front panel and new lights.just need to mesh the top grill. the bumper on the car atm is off the later ZR which means the bumper is all 1 piece. the mesh mounting points seem to be different. hmm

Well done mate. Good turnaround. Very rapid. Good work too. Think I prefer minus eyebrows and smoothed indicator etc.
Managed to get hold of a cheap set of monoco seats of ebay and thought id toy with the idea of doing something wacky and different..now that my front bumper is no more :( so i decided to added some massaging motors within the actual seat.
A bonus of this was that the donor chair massager that i bought also had a heater element in it. warm me bum up on them cold mornings :D
I did hit a few snags on the way i.e the wires to the top motors need to be extended.
Cost of Mod - Just a tad over £10
Here is the seats once i had stripped it all down
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/Shafz/stripped/DSC01261.jpg
Here is what the seat massager looked like. i could have just fitted the covers over the top, but then it would have buldged out and looked horrible!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/Shafz/stripped/DSC01262.jpg
Here is what the massager is capable of doing
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/Shafz/stripped/DSC01265.jpg
i then completely gutted the seat massager and manage to salvage the motors and heater elements from it
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/Shafz/stripped/DSC01278.jpg
after carefully marking out where i wanted the motors, i marked out how much foam i needed to cut away. After i was happy with the depth i then held it in place using some velcro strips
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/Shafz/stripped/DSC01280.jpg
All that was left to do now was to put the covers back on!

i love my monocos! just working on the inside of the car now. got a red/black steering on the way and need to do some major rewiring for my 2 amps, front compos, and other gadgets. ordered some new battery terminals so i can run the power straight from the battery rather then tapping into the wires from behind the headunit
both driver and passenger seats have massagers in now and both work a treat!
