How about take your chances and don't bother.

Seriously .... We all go on about the belts - but how many Mk1s are out there having done the 90K and being 11 - 12 years old and are still going strong.... Loads of them .... If you need the peace of mind - fair enough.

You can get an engine for £350.... with the rest of the car for another £150 thrown in !!!!

There is a certain amount so financial sense if you are reliant on a garage doing the work or are not to bothered about the car? but it's still a risk of being stranded!! There are various posts on other forums stating that the KV6 belts are good for up to 150,000 miles or around 10-12 years and MGR were basically playing safe with the change interval they recommended!! I'm doing my 180's belts this year but i'm holding off as I want to do a tool-less guide at the same time!! I'm not worried that mine is 9 years old as it only done 63,000 miles and confident they won't fail before I change them!!
