Tax hike could be gone altogether!

Following on from the other thread about it being put on hold, Well according to this months car mechanics magazine it could well be dropped altogether.

The only cars it will affect now are post 2006 cars as people buying these cars new would of known of the future plans of the tax increase. Cars made pre 2006 will only get the standard inflation tax increase from 2010 onwards.

I wrote to my Tory MP along these lines when the Goverment first announced the new tax plans, he waffled back saying something about "we need to reduce CO2", he missed my point completly.

He also failed to understand that in 2004 the EU altered the way they measure CO2 so any car tested before this date was actually more efficiant than one tested after 2004, of course the 180 falls in to this. I have spent months trying to find the info on the test change but no sucess so far.

Yea it says something about this in the article. It says something along the lines of cars built before 2004 the goverment have no real way of finding out the exact emssions as exact measures were never taken before the new rules were applied. So they cant put older cars in a high tax band incase they've put them in the wrong one.
