I've done 2 KV6 engines and both times I did the primary (front) belt first!! In fact both times i'v done the link (rear) belts some weeks later!!
Just make sure you lock the crank in the safe position before you start any belts and mark the pulleys so there is no chance of a fowl up!! When you ease the tension off the front belt you will see the cam pulleys turn 15° or so so it's just a case of turning them to the correct place when fitting the new belt front pulley first!! It may be possible to lock the cam using the link pulleys but I'v never tried that.
If you are not using the locking tools then DON'T undo the front cam pulleys bolts as the timing will be lost!!
