We've got these at work after our fleet was pretty much grounded in the snow last year. Not used them yet though plus now half our cars have been replaced by 4x4 Insignias!

Interesting, is their a max speed limit to these things? I would guess it's pretty low and would need to be removed when on clearer roads to avoid them getting ripped apart. However I wouldn't fancy fitting them when stuck due to the other morons out there!

Have you noticed they dont do any stop/starts with those socks on that hill

i Reckon it would still spin up

you can quite easily get up a snowy hill with a bit of momentum from a run up

I thought that too, as you would need to rotate the wheels to finish fitting the sock, all well and good if on a slight slope but not if level and wheels spinning in either direction.

I used to carry some old bamboo beach mats, helped get grip if stuck and just required to move a few feet.

When in the Discovery I have a large capacity towing strap at hand, helps to get cars and vans out of my way when I need to carry on with my journey. Used it many times last winter.

To be honest that car was spinning up on purpose on that ice. It was in first gear which is the wrong gear if your stuck like that! I would also be warey about using these going any faster than 10mph.

You cant go over 15mph with them on irrc, they handle most hills as long as you dont 'give it some' a guy in the resort had them on his m5 and never had any issues going up the 14% hill to his chalet... mind you he did have a run up lol.
Im gonna get a set me thinks.
