i have a nasty rusty pipe (petrol)

When i got the car (only 6 months old) the area around the filler cap was rusting, it is now that bad there is not much holding the pipe in place and you can see daylight. The top of the pipe is also really corroded and the plastic cap will now not screw on securely. Is there anything i can do apart from replacing the whole lot, dont like the idea of rust in the petrol tank.

Sounds like the only option is to replace the pipe if you don't want any damage to happen.

It's the lack of protection causing the corrosion, These 2 pics are AFTER pics, I had just wirebrushed this area, I SHULTZED it afterwards.

Then fitted a cover, standard on the R400/45 and poss.MK1.

Thats what I was thinking. The MK2 didnt have the plastic protection. Dropped for cost reasons. The rusty pipes show it was still needed.........

Good old cost cutting. I really need to underseal my petrol tank before the winter comes aswell. Starting to rust quite badly after just 40k miles
