Idle issues

1.8 mg zs runns fine but idle is eratic sounds as tho running on 3 cynlinders but runs fine when driving also seems to use a lot of fuel any ideas ?????? Cheers

No it runs fine on the road just tickover soyns as though it wants to cut out

could be a sticking idle air control valve, always worth a try is the tps reset which is
turn the ignition on, pump the accelerator 5 times, then turn the ignition back off again, then start the car, the revs should rise fall then settle steady
its really hard to diagnose sometimes without seeing it, but things to check would be removing the plug leads, and looking in them, if they are black inside then youll need a new set of leads and plugs

coil packs used to be common issues when the cars were fairly new, now its of an age have you looked at the plugs?
