Rattle in the dash

As well as my cv joint issue, I have a nasty rattle from the dash. Its most noticable when idling in traffic. It really knocks and rattles through the cabin, feels like the engine is about to blow up. When I rev it, the rattle tends to get less severe. Could it be linked to the cv issue or something else?

Unless your CV has failed to the point of total collapse I doubt it.

I'd lift the bonnet and see if it is any louder or not.

Is yours a V6?

Under the bonnet it sounds fine, so I think it's something working loose in the bulkhead/dash area. It's the poxy 1.8 version.

Rattle in the dash

Does it always do it on idle, is it there when you start the car?

Just wondering if its a bush or exhaust hanger that's gone and causing a knock somewhere.

It could be something like worn bushes in the upper and/or lower engine steady bars.

Cheers guys, I'll give the garage a heads up. To be fair it is 11 years old and on 90k.

silly but i had a rattle on mine and it sounded like it was coming from the dashboard but in fact it was the rear view mirror, the mirro had come loose in the fitting, a bit of double sided tape fixed it though

Totally agree with steve,i had a new w/screen fitted few weeks ago and the rattling was driving me mad, eventually i found it was the rear mirror,so just try holding and see if it stops, hopefully its this
