Janspeed sports cat worthwhile?

As part of a full performance exhaust system on a 180 (Janspeed manifolds and a good cat back), is a Janspeed sports cat worth bothering with?

I'm not interested in a de-cat, to keep it legal.
So this is purely a performance comparison between the Sports cat and the OE cat.

Obviously with the Janspeed manifolds I will have lost the pre-cat already.

I've been warned off by one person who had a sports cat (don't know brand) on a K4 engined car. It went wrong after 1 year and failed the MOT. So there are obviously some sport cats around that are not very durable.

They're not cheap so I'm currently inclined to stick with the OE cat, unless it's REALLY eating power. At least it's durable.

Dave

I wouldn't bother unless the cat you have is defective, I have a Janspeed sports cat and can vouch for its durabilty, it's been fitted for about 7 years and has been fine.

Did it make a noticeable performance improvement?

Or did you fit it along with other exhaust upgrades at the same time so that it was not a back-back CAT test?

I fitted it on its own, if made it feel less restricted, so more free revving, as to wether it added much bhp, I'm not so convinced, a bit like a lightened flywheel, it doesn't add bhp, but changes the way it is delivered.

It's a tough one, at £272 here.

I'm leaning towards your original advice though to stick with my current OE cat unless it ever fails.

Slightly cheaper at DC Performance http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprat...cat/mg/zs.html

Still a lot of money to spend on replacing some thing that is working ok, ideally it would be good to see some back to back figures showing standard cat v sports cat.
