Lightbulb VIS Faults - 3000 rpm & 4000 rpm

Sorry if this has been covered many times before, but i just cant seem to find the right answer.

The 180 seems to be down on power at the moment. Basically the car does not pull like it used to anymore and there is no kick at 3k revs. There does seem to be an increase in power around 4k so what i need to know is whether its the power or balance vis at fault or both.

I recently serviced the 180 and during the service i removed the plenum and flushed it out with a degreasant (after removing all electrical parts). I did notice the vis unit with the black flap (sorry im new to this) was stiff and i could not turn it without feeling i was going to break it, is this the problem?

Circa 3k is the power valve, the one on top of the plenum. The one you describe is the balance valve and is on the end of the plenum. The butterfly valve should be free to turn (assuming the motor assembly has been removed) if it is stiff, then you have a problem. I do have a few spare ones if you need one, exchange would be good so I can repair the faulty one as I have a few plenums in my garage.

Sounds like the power valve motor needs removing and checking over. They are prone to failure and can be repaired, the solder tracks tend to crack or the solder gets a hairline crack where the small V3 switches are located. An eye glass can help to check this out.

There should be a thread somewhere detailing this, I'll go look.

What Stamford said exactly, Have had the lack of kick at 3k and was power valve. Stamford is VIS king on here.

Sorry for the late reply, been having drama's with my net. Took out the power vis today and to be honest couldnt really see anything wrong with the solder joints or tracks, but thought i might aswell give them a blob of solder anyway and hey-presto power is definately back. Just need to have a look at the balance vis now.

If its the power motor then its the easy one,so the plenum stays in situ

If you are getting the 4K kick chances are it will be OK. No easy way to tell without opening it up and checking, or rolling roading it. However your analogy of If it aint broke is a good one. I have just performed the magic screw mod to a new power motor should stop it happening again.
