remap/chip

whats the difference? keep reading about having their zs chipped, others say its been remaped some are saying the car has been chipped and then remapped.

especially the people running piper cams say they have had both?

is it the same thing with 2 different names or is there a difference?

My take on it is:

1. Chip-being a replacement pre-programmed chip for the standard ecu. Already pre-set to a set programme to open the parameters. No allowance for modifications therefore not fine tuned to suit the car. Car using 95 RON fuel probably.
2. Remap-being a 'live' remapping of the current ecu to take into account the modifications done, fuel type used, 95 or 98 RON and adjusted to suit. Tweaking of the parameters across the range. I would expect full rolling road before and after with this to compare graphs.
3. Custom ecu to override the OE one, to take it further to encompass 285 cams and beyond for which the OE cannot handle.

Like I said that is how I view it, but I am no expert.

either way, unless you have gone down a route other than a simple exhaust/filter/decat it seams to of been proven a remap/chip isnt any use due ot the way the siemens ecu is able to adapt and learn to its mods.
